The Birley

The Birley is a not-for-profit contemporary arts space in the heart of Preston city centre, offering studio space for up to 15 artists as well as exhibition and project spaces.

Their aim is to provide professional, supportive space for emerging artists and recent graduates as well as opportunities for community engagement.

The Birley is ran by the Post Post Community Interest Company made up of four directors;

  • Matthew Birchall
  • Steph Fletcher
  • Benedict Rutherford and
  • Jane Bennett

They have lived and worked in Preston for many years all graduating from the University of Central Lancashire. Following a number of collaborations on pop-up and temporary arts events and exhibitions the company was established after the group felt they wanted to have a more permanent presence in the city.

They work within a wide network of fellow artists, creatives and makers in Preston and the surrounding area and welcome new members, partners, collaborations and friends.
