Ribble Steam Railway
Whilst Preston's Ribble Steam Railway Museum is a relatively new visitor attraction, it is no less historical in its outlook. With its fascinating exhibits – both working and static – the museum is a proud reminder of so much that made Preston and Lancashire the vibrant centres they are today.
A day out with a difference
Found in the heart of Preston’s historic docklands, the museum makes an exciting day out, providing a full sensory experience of a working railway that both stimulates and invigorates the senses.
Whether you’re a keen steam enthusiast or just looking for somewhere interesting to visit with the family, you’re guaranteed a memorable experience amid Lancashire’s world famous industrial heritage.
Discover the history of Preston‘s docks and the stories of the first electrical trains, and hop aboard a steam train and travel the railway’s one and a quarter mile dock and riverside line, passing a relatively undiscovered part of the city, across Preston Marina and its impressive swing bridge. There’s also a miniature railway especially for children situated amongst the museum’s restored engines.
Make sure you don’t miss out on the opportunity to view industrial engines and locomotives being restored in the workshop and then relax with a snack in the museum’s café overlooking the locomotives.
Special steam weekends
Ribble Steam Railway opens its doors on selected weekends and days during the school holidays to host special steam weekends, often with visiting trains, plus the popular Santa Specials in December.
